Numbers Are In…Largest US Soccer Crowd Since ’94 WC Final

The final numbers are in…93,137 people packed the Rose Bowl and witnessed an impressive effort by the Galaxy against global powerhouse FC Barcelona making this “the largest soccer crowd in the United States since the 1994 World Cup Final (94,194)” according to mlsnet.com.

The highlight of the game came just before the half when, in true David Beckham fashion, he bent one over the Barcelona line on a free kick to tie the game 1-1.

If you are unable to access Fox Soccer Network on your TV I feel your pain, iO digital cable in North New Jersey doesn’t carry it.

Fear not though because the game is streaming online for free! It’s in Spanish which kind of sucks but in this case beggers can’t be choosers so I’ll take it.

After spending four years with his hometown team FC Dallas, MLS All-Star foward Kenny Cooper was sold yesterday to Germany’s 1860 Munich.

Cooper was the all-time leading scorer in FC Dallas history and was voted the teams MVP in 2008.

FC Barcelona vs LA Galaxy Preview

A sold out crowd of  85,000 people are expected to pack the Rose Bowl tonight to watch global stars Thierry Henry, Xavi, Lionel Messi and their club FC Barcelona kick off their U.S. tour against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Judging from the recent Chelsea FC v Inter-Milan match at the Rose Bowl tonight’s game should be a star studded event.

There are still a limited amount of tickets available – if your heading to the game check out this page for tips, but if you can’t make it out to the Rose Bowl you can watch the game on Fox Soccer Network and Fox Sports en Espanol.

Will the Riot Squard heckle David Beckham? Can Landon Donavan perform against the Barça stars? Will smokin’ hot Charlize Theron be in attendance? All questions will be answered tonight.

AT&T Jumps In Bed With The USMNT

Realizing that soccer’s popularity in the U.S. is on the rise and that 2010 FIFA World Cup hysteria is on the way AT&T has signed a multiyear agreement to become the official communications services sponsor of U.S. Men’s National team.

As part of the deal with the MLS and U.S. Men’s and Women’s Nation teams, AT&T will provide exclusive content for fans on wireless devices, personal computers and TVs. Offerings will include behind-the-scenes looks at the sport, player profiles and interviews and post-game highlights.

This is just another example of how sponsors are anticipating a growth of interest in the MLS and U.S. Men’s & Women National teams over the coming years.
